The 2012 NorCal AIDS Cycle route is being formulated – Check back for updates!
Ringing in the changes….2012 is expected to bring some changes to our routing – we may reverse course and go clockwise, we may change course altogether and visit parts of teh valley we have never visited before.
These changes are in part due to the wonderful success of the 2011 event. More cyclists and crew than ever before has demonstrated to us that we need to consider new overnight facilities that can accommodate our new size!
Please stay tuned for updates to this page – the team in charge of routes is quite actively researching alternatives!
As an example of what to expect, past years have been a counter-clockwise tour of the Central Valley, traveling through the foothills of the Sierras to the eastern Coast Range then back to the western valley.
Day 1 (95 miles) Begins in Folsom where the first half of the day is spent exploring the rolling terrain of the foothills near Lincoln, Loomis, and Auburn before finishing the day at Gridley in the heart of the Central Valley.
Day 2 (90 miles) Cyclists are able to choose between two different 90-mile routes. Both options include cycling the historic towns of Oroville and Durham before ending the day with a pleasant cruise along the banks of the Sacramento River and evening camp in Colusa. The more challenging option takes cyclists up Table Mt., to add a steep climb, and 10 miles to the day. Cyclists seeking less challenging terrain will cirlce around Table Mt., still enjoying some rolling hills around the mountain’s base.
Days 3 and 4 – The Weekender
Day 3 (85 miles) Begins on the flats and breaks away into rolling hills followed by a seven mile climb out of the valley. From there, it’s a mostly-downhill ride along Cache Creek as it empties out into the Sacramento Valley. We’ll ride by the newly expanded Cache Creek Casino Resort before stopping for the night in Woodland.
Day 4 (50 miles) The easiest day of the ride and final stage is completed with a flat 50 miles from Woodland to Winters to Davis and then back to Sacramento.
